TABOO Radon Network

There are 5 permanent Radon stations real time recording concentration of Rn emissions. These are closely spaced stations (within 10km of distance) complementing the permanent INGV National Italian Radon Monitoring Network (named IRON) characterized by larger spacing, located in other seismically active areas.

Stations are equipped with a proprietary detector based on a Lucas cell with a continuous data acquisition front-end, configured with an acquisition window of 2 hours. Simultaneously with Rn concentration data, stations acquire local temperature values by means of a specific sensor co-located with the radon detector. The instrument is powered by a 12V battery charged by a power supply connected to 220V mains or to a solar panel. Data is locally stored in the front-end electronics memory and then downloaded through a serial interface. Data are routinely analysed with correlation and cross-correlation algorithms, in order to investigate existing relationship between the Rn time series, seismic events and meteorological parameters.

Soon, 3 new radon stations will be co-located with existing seismic stations BAT1, BAT2 e BAT3 (borehole installation).
